View old versions of a page

Description
After searching the net up and down i finally decided to open a bug report:
It seems impossible to view an old version of a page as it was visible to FE-Users on a given date or a given version.
When clicking on the preview Icon for a certain content element, I always get the current version displayed.
I may be blind and don't see how to achieve this - would be glad if I am wrong and this bug gets closed ;)

As crazy as it might sound, it seems that this feature is not implemented in the core.
It has been reported before as a missing:

tt_news does its "own" handling of the parameter, and this might be the solution you want to go in your extension. See ./pi/class.tx_ttnews.php method displayVersionPreview().
So either we get some "core handling" for this parameter, or at least an API to have extensions "use" it in a uniform way.
Anyway, maybe this feedback helps you at first.

Hm some options are available through the admin panel - not sure if that's enough for you?
