Missing/removed folder in fileadmin completely stops typo3 Edit Page Content "Add Images" dialog to work

Description

typo3 6.1.1
(Re)moving a folder in "fileadmin/media" by ftp crashes "Add Images" dialog completely
at least if this folder was active in the dialog before.

The typo3 Backend then becomes unuseable for adding pictures,
even on existing pages with picture-content-elements.
Backend Clear Cache does not help either.
Only (re)creating missing folder/link will help.

Uncaught TYPO3 Exception

TYPO3\CMS\Core\Resource\Exception\ResourceDoesNotExistException thrown in file
/typo3_sources/typo3_src-6.1.1/typo3/sysext/core/Classes/Resource/ResourceFactory.php in line 398.
