as sys_news are shown only in the moment a user logged in they are not usefull on spontan announcements of maintenance time.
I long for a possibility to announce maintenance to all editors so they could save all their current work.
There is an Install-Tool option "adminOnly", but that will give no opportunity to save current works to the editors but will force an immediate logout.

IMHO one solution could be adding a task to scheduler that sends emails, with a configurable subject and body (I am almost sure there was a task like "test email" amongst the default tasks, but I don't find it in 6.2.x...)
