Resolve ULRs to "Link to external URL"-pages directly

Description
When creating a page of type "Link to external URL" typolinks and TS menus will render an internal URL triggering a redirect to the external target when invoked.
This is not in sync with the other shortcut page types ("Selected page", "First subpage of selected/current page", ...) where links are resolved directly in order to prevent duplicate content.
I'm not 100% sure whether the current behavior is intended for some reason, but if it is it should probably be documented.
