Description

The new page tree shows a modal prompt when a page was moved to ask for Move, Copy or Cancel.

Since this slows down editing workflows considerably there should be an option to disable this and default to move and copy when pressing the Ctrl key during drag-and-drop.

Cancelling everything via the Esc key during drag would be the icing on the cake. ;-)

My colleague mentioned a valid point: the current state is much better for touch devices where until now copying was impossible with DnD. However, maybe gestures should be adopted instead, e.g. DnD with two fingers for copy instead of move.

... or enable the prompt only for touch-enabled devices

I add here another two-cents: I think that in touch devices the copy/move operations are done with checkboxes and buttons to copy/paste elements. Slower, but more effective.

As Mathias Brodala already suggested: Use the same method used by your OS

  • using just drag and drop: move by default
  • hold CTRL (Windows) or CMD (Mac): copy (IIRC I could be wrong)
