Usability: labels improvements
Added by Francois Suter almost 14 years ago.

Description
Many labels related to versioning/workspaces have a very technical bent and are hard to understand for the average user.
Here are a few I already stumbled upon, more may come later. I'm listing below the current labels and the changes I propose:
- Live Workspace (name of the tab in the split-preview) => Live site (I think it's easier if people don't think of the live site as a workspace)
- Enable frontend preview => Enable split preview (or Enable comparison view)
The last point also reverses the behavior, so it's not just a label change. I don't know if this has already been discussed inside your team, but I think that "Enable frontend preview" is extremely confusing as both view are really previews. The only difference is that one offers a comparison with the live site (plus some more functions) and the other not.

the problem is that the new module is acutally not really splitting things ;) - but basically I like the idea to change these labels

That's true. So maybe "Enable comparison view". Or else keep the toggle as it is now, but label it "Enable simple preview".

patch for workspace extension comitted with revision: 3109
After a lot of discussion about this issue in the core list, there will be an extra meeting on Monday 6th of December to discuss this topic again.
Unfortunately I can't "be there" to take part in the meeting.
In my opinion the frontend preview feature should work the following way, if the user is in Workspace:
Per default the user should see the NOT splitted preview if he/she clicks on a preview link somewhere in TYPO3. If the option "Enable comparsion preview" in the workspace module right top is activated/marked, the user should see the SPLITTED preview if he/she clicks on a preview link somewhere in TYPO3. I think that's the most intuitive way, as the option "Enable comparsion preview" option is in the always seen workspace menu, so should also work everywhere in TYPO3 the same way.
If the user is in LIVE the setting of "Enable comparsion preview" should doesn't matter.
But thats my personal opinion and I'm sure the team will find a good deciscion.
It would be nice if the participants of the meeting tomorrow could create a protocol on a wiki page so this behavior of the preview setting can be part of the new documentation until final version of 4.5.
