Description

I've done part 1 of the EM code review and found lots of bugs, issues, misnamers, incorrect documentation and code that sorely needs a cleanup. Please see attached patch for details.

as this hints are 2 years old and the EM is rewritten in this time. Are the comments in the diff file up to date?

This is not in use anymore with the new EM. The new code has much better doc-comments.
