IMHO
tt_content.image.20.1.stdWrap.wrap = this|that
should be rendered between <a> and <img> tag. This is not the case, it is rendered outside of the <a> and the <img> tag.

IMO the wrap you describe is correct

The issue is very old, does this issue exists in newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (4.5 or 6.1)?
