Same answer as in the mailing list:
I can't find such a field, neither in 4.4 nor in 4.5 - only defaultTypoScript_constants and defaultTypoScript_editorcfg, which are both textareas. Also scrolling through the list didn't make me find any similar option using a textfield. Could you please look the name up again?

Ah, okay.. now I found it in the source code (thems that I was too blind). However it's also not shown for me in the Install Tool.

By changing the corresponding comment in t3lib/config_default.php, which contains the rendering description (prepended "String (textarea)") brought me the option with a textarea.

However, there was lots of content shown from various extensions adding their default setup. I think that's the reason, why it's not enabled (anymore). SVN history didn't reveal the real cause for the change (if it has ever been a textarea).

However changing this is currently not possible, as long as the full content of the textarea is shown.
Think the problem is that extensions add/append code in their ext_tables.php. Install Tool would save the values then also in localconf.php. That's why I think it's not desired to save the computed value.

I guess it can be. The field has been removed inactual TYPO3 versions (tested with TYPO3 4.6.x).
