Description

Since TYPO3 v8 the button for the history in a content element is gone, is this intended? I think it is annoying when reaching it only via page module overview or list module.

see screenshot from a 9.4, doesnt look that way for you?

I know this way. But in Version <= 7 there was a button next to the save button when the content element is opened. See screenshots.

I also missed that icon and had to do an intensive search how to access the history module.

The button is not gone, it just changed location (if configured to be shown for the current table - see TSConfig options.showHistory = 1) - see attached screenshot. And yes, that was intended :)
