Since version 10.3, webp can also be used as a variant: https://docs.typo3.org/c/typo3/cms-core/master/en-us/Changelog/10.3/Feature-90416-SpecificTargetFileExtensionInImage-relatedViewHelpers.html
The install tool should add another test that checks for webp generation.
