Insert a reference or a copy

Description
Since Gridelements seems to be outdated it would be amazing to have a small function of it in TYPO3 core. Our editors would love to have the "insert reference" function again. Would it be possible to have this function in TYPO3 core?
1. So copy a content on page.
2. Then you can select insert copy or insert reference. The second would create a shortuct element with the copied content in the records field.

you can use the extension https://github.com/Kephson/paste_reference in the meantime

Thanks for the hint, but it dosen't work for TYPO3 v12. There is no official version and with the TYPO3_12 branch I got some errors.

@Marc Hirdes Can you please report the errors in the github project because I worked on that branch and for me everything works fine.
