What about the rule about new features appear only in new versions?

In any case extension can be just copied to 4.2 because it uses functions unavailable in 4.2 (t3lib_div and t3lib_extMgm).

I do not think we should backport it. Instead we should encourage users to use newer versions of TYPO3 :)

The attached changes are backporting the OpenID system extension from TYPO3 4.3 to TYPO3 4.2. However, the patch 0009801.patch is required no matter if the sysext gets integrated into the branch or just copied from TYPO3 4.3 on local TYPO3 installations.

I agree this shouldn't go into 4.2, although the patch is written by myself.
We should stick to the release policy and instead provide the patches here for those who want to backport the feature, just as it's already done.

So I propose to close this bug bug refer to it when people as for OpenID in 4.2.

Exactly! Sorry, if this lead to confusion. This "feature request" was just about to have the possibility in TYPO3 4.2 as backport from TYPO3 4.3. But it's not about officially committing it to the SVN branch which is - of course - for bugfixes only.
