Bug #92856
open"Admin Panel" naming confusing
0%
Description
New TYPO3 users are confusing "Admin Panel" with TYPO3 Backend, as in many other systems (WP, Drupal, Magento,...) the "Admin Panel" (or Administration Panel) means the place we call "Backend".
More appropriate name would be "developer toolbar" or "debug bar" or sth similar.
Btw, the term "Backend" is also confusing, especialy with IT/devops, where it's used in the meaning of "upstream server".

There isn't any option for administrative settings in the panel, therefore the name is IMHO misleading.
I propose to change the name to "Debug Panel".

I've been confused by this in the past, too.
Problem is that the old name occurs in so many places and people knowing TYPO3 know it by that name.
If it were created new, I'd totally vote for "Debug Bar" or "TYPO3 Inspector". ;)
Not sure we can remedy this witnout confusing people even more with a Twix<>Raider effect.
Maybe call it "TYPO3 Admin Panel (for Work and Frontend) NEW".

I agree with Garvin on this.
I would vote to close issues where the disadvantages of the change are disproportionately higher than the advantages.
In the past I have been nitpicking also about some terms. But for some of them is a huge nightmare to change. Another one is the "System tools" / "Admin Tools" one which I deeply regret opening.
Another term is "Backend" which is really generic and often associated with something else. Also the term "plugin" for a content element. I could go on ...
