Feature #95515
closedSave and Close button

Description
It could be useful to have a "Save and Close button" on top of BE Editing Form
Updated by Benni Mack over 3 years ago
- Target version changed from 11 LTS to Candidate for Major Version
Updated by Sybille Peters over 2 years ago
- Tags set to backend usability, backend workflow
just as a fyi:
There are currently 2 extensions (AFAIK) which provide this functionality: save_close_ce and kf_backend_mod . Both break the slug / redirect revert functionality from the core.

Update: with save_close_ce dev-master and TYPO3 v11 the problem is no longer reproducable: the extension does not break the redirect revert functionality.

Candidate for Major Version)
I feel sorry to reject this issue, but the decision to remove the "save and close" button has been already taken and goes in the direction of simplifying the TYPO3 backend and is not going to be reimplemented.
- On version 13.1 it has been implemented a "save and close" hotkey https://docs.typo3.org/c/typo3/cms-core/main/en-us/Changelog/13.1/Feature-103529-IntroduceHotkeyForSaveAndClose.html
- On version 12 you could use a third-party extension https://extensions.typo3.org/extension/save_and_close
If you think that this is the wrong decision, then please reopen it or open a new ticket and add a relation to this ticket number.

When I have to do tasks as an editor and I have to do a lot of editing in different content I really miss this button.
Like many other decisions regarding TYPO3, they are made by developers who rarely, if ever, operate as editors and therefore do not understand the result of their own decisions in the operations of editors.
That button should not have been removed. If it seemed like a complication of TYPO3's UI to anyone, it should have at least made it optional whether the button was visible or not.
Saying that there is an extension that does it, or a keyboard shortcut, just seems like a palliative to me. That button should have stayed in the core and the fact that it is being reintroduced as a keyboard shortcut is proof of that.

@Riccardo, is the decision to remove the "save & close" button or rather not reimplement it explained somewhere?
I have to agree that for people who work as editors, e.g. for many hours a day, it is a big difference if you have to always click twice to save and close or just click once.
We use an extension for this but I agree it would be good to have it in the core.
Since I don't exactly know the reason against it and Ian Solo brings convincing arguments, +1 from me for reopening this issue.
