"Edit" in page tree context menu has changed semantics

Description
The context menu in the page tree that I get when I click on the page icon, has an entry "Edit" and and entry "Edit page properties". The former used to open the same view as a click on the page title ("page" or "list"). The latter would take you to the page properties. When I did security updates from 4.2.3 to 4.2.6, if found the entry "Edit" to suddenly take me to the page properties, too, making the "Edit page properties" entry redundant.
Unfortunately I don't have the source code for version 4.2.4 and 4.2.5 and never used those, either. I can therefore not tell for certain where this change in semantics was introduced.

I can reproduce this. The layout breaks with page properties frame using the middle and right frame and pagetree frame disappearing (like condensed mode).
I think this is a bug in clickmenu edit item. I could isolate this bug and it seems it introduced with #18673.
I have added a patch as a workaround, which partly reverts the patch from #18673. I am unsure if this is the right way to resolve the issue. So please someone from the core team have a look at this. Maybe Steffen Kamper, who introduces the patch for #18673?

I just checked...
I can reproduce this on my trunk installation as well. This is a no-go and should be fixed quite soon (= in the next stable maintenance release).
I'll have a look at the patch in the next days...

In current trunk there's still "Edit" and "Edit page properties".
Both lead to the same BE form showing the page properties, but "Edit" removes the page tree completely.
IMHO "Edit" should behave like "Edit page properties" or should be replaced with it, while he second "Edit page properties" should be removed.

The issue is very old, does this issue exists in newer versions of TYPO3 CMS (4.5 or 6.1)?

Can be closed IMHO. The context menu had changed since 4.5.x (4.4.x to be honest) and "Edit" is the only entry.
