Description

With Firefox and other browsers, a user can double-click a page title in the pagetree so it can be edited in place, directly within the pagetree.

With IE8 and IE9, that's not possible in TYPO3 v4.5.19 - instead of the editing field with the page-title, the page is loaded in the right column (same as single-clicking the page title in the pagetree).

Just tested it with a IE9 (9.0.8) and current master (6.0), works fine

I've just tested again:
IE8 on WinXP does not work in TYPO3 v6.0-dev from Git master
IE9 on Win7 does work on our environment with v6.0-dev from Git master - but not on a customer's computer (maybe it ran in IE8 compatibility mode, cannot test right now)

So I think it's only related to IE8.

Mario, can you try if the problem still occurs without compatibility mode?

While we're at it: I believe there are some more issues related with IE8 and compatibility mode. Maybe you can also take a look at the following issues?

Greetings, Michael

We've just played around a bit:

Logging in to a 4.5.x backend, the used IE9 automatically switched back to use the "Document Mode IE8" and the error is reproducable. Manually switching to Document Mode IE9 solves the problem.

Logging in to a 6.0-dev backend, the used IE9 stays in it's IE9 mode and the error is not reproducable.

Seems like the compatibility mode is the key here, not the browser version itself.

Tested today with a 2 day old 6.0.1-dev version: Win7 IE9 works, WinXP IE8 still broken.

Is this still an issue?

I've just quickly tested:
- TYPO3 4.5.39, Win7+IE11 > issue can be reproduced and inline-editing of the page-title is broken
TYPO3 6.2.9, Win7+IE11 -> everything fine

Considering the age of this issue and that we're not hearing customers complaining about this all the time, the need is not huge, but the complexity is marked as "nightmare" - I'm fine with closing the issue as "wont't fix"

Do you have an IE9 at hand somewhere?
If it was working on IE9, then I'd close this one.

Tested via crossbrowsertesting.com as I have no IE9 at hand locally, it doesn't seem to work with this browser version.

Just tested the demo site (6.2.9)

IE8 8.0.7601.17514 > not working
IE9 9.0.8112.16421 > working

I also tested it with the online demo of version 7 (7.3.1) and found that

IE8 8.0.7601.17514 > working
IE9 9.0.8112.16421 > working

(albeit in both cases the backend has visual issues, the double click works)

As there is no plan to support IE8 anymore, I'll close this ticket.

If you think that this is the wrong decision, then please write to the mailing list typo3.teams.bugs with issue number and an explanation or open a new ticket and add a relation to this ticket number.
