Description
Would it make sense to always use the mod.php, instead of using the following line in conf.php?
$MCONF['script']='index.php';

I would even move the stuff in conf.php into the modules registration. IMHO modules registration should be some kind of register plugin with a classname+method.

Would make sense, yes, but the core still does that in some modules:
typo3/sysext/cms/layout/conf.php:$MCONF['script'] = 'db_layout.php';
typo3/sysext/func/mod1/conf.php:$MCONF['script'] = 'index.php';
typo3/sysext/info/mod1/conf.php:$MCONF['script'] = 'index.php';
typo3/sysext/version/cm1/conf.php:$MCONF['script'] = 'index.php';
Please also note that Benni merged this FEATURE some time ago which is related to this: #49643. Since Benni is now "back in business" you might want to get in touch with him for further details or plans in this area.
