Editing related record in a mm field, and not the mm record

Description
It would be great if one could edit the related record within a IRRE field instead of the mm table. Imagine you have an article and want to add existing authors (mm), but you don't want to edit the relation, you wan't to directly pop the author open and edit the author (tt_address) within the current record.
This would help a lot to integrate IRRE in existing record types just by changing TCA and not the sql/db structure.

Could you please come up with a more detailed example? Are you talking about regular MM relationships or m:n relations with an intermediate table that is defined in TCA and has proper uid and pid?

Regular clean m:n relation. It should be possible to edit the related record it selve instead of mm relation table record...
It should also be possible to select within existing records and add them into the IRRE field.
At the moment it's just possible to add new records which are related 1:n

I tested that combined mode and it works fine. In my opinion this bug report can be closed.

Hello!
I also think it will be good feature. I know there is combined mode when you can edit records, but if you have a lot of relations it works very very slow as all records getting loaded in one window. I was running into it several times when I have had to add more relations. In such case combined mode becomes useless and you have to switched it off and if you need edit related record then manually seach one in list view and then edit. Would be nice to have icon to edit related record and then getting the record in pop up window or loaded in the same window instead of parent record.

As this report is very old, is the handling in newer TYPO3 CMS Versions (like 6.0/6.1) more like you expect it?

Hey. I hope it's ok to close here for now: Nothing happened for x years and we have both the "true" MM stuff without irre (like sys_category), plus the 'mm combination' stuff using IRRE. If that is not enough, we should have a fresh issue and design something from scratch if still needed.
