With linkhandler, you can build links to singlepage of extensions eg. news.
In my request shoud it be possible to build this links with a shortcut. So you can get a link to a news article within the navigation.
My workaround at the moment is, to copy the url of singlepage from browser and set external link. I think with linkhandler functionality would it be better.

Still not possible with current linkhandler implemented on 8.7-dev (latest master) AFAICS

This has only partially to do with the linkhandler extension now integrated into CMS 8.
The idea rather would be to extend the page type shortcut with a mode, which allows to use the normal link wizard for a link target selection.
This could then involve the possibility to link to records as well (due to the new functionality)

Tested today on a TYPO3 11.5.33 installation.
Changing the TCA of the url field to a renderType=inputlink would do the trick.
All links, including linkhandlered are processed in the menus for pages with doktype "link to external url".
Thus, there should be only one shortcut page type that would be handled with an link input.
It seems as easy as that.
